What's the difference between albite and plagioclase?

Albite

Definition:

  • (n.) A mineral of the feldspar family, triclinic in crystallization, and in composition a silicate of alumina and soda. It is a common constituent of granite and of various igneous rocks. See Feldspar.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) The adhesion of cells of Salmonella typhimurium to albite, biotite, felspar, magnetite and quartz was correlated to the presence of fimbriae and degree of hydrophobicity and charge of the bacterial surface.
  • (2) Despite major improvements, ceramic dental materials, as albite glasses, still show unsatisfactory strength properties.
  • (3) The adhesion of Salmonella typhimurium to the mineral particles quartz, albite, feldspar, and magnetite was shown to correlate with the hydrophobicity of the cell surface as measured by hydrophobic interaction chromatography.

Plagioclase

Definition:

  • (n.) A general term used of any triclinic feldspar. See the Note under Feldspar.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) Quantitative analysis by IR, XRD, and visible spectrophotometry requires a preliminary phosphoric acid digestion of the ash sample to remove the plagioclase silicate material which interferes with the determination by these methods.
