What's the difference between allantoid and botuliform?
Allantoid
Definition:
(a.) Alt. of Allantoidal
(n.) A membranous appendage of the embryos of mammals, birds, and reptiles, -- in mammals serving to connect the fetus with the parent; the urinary vesicle.
Example Sentences:
(1) Except for its conidia, which are mostly reniform to allantoid rather than ovoid as is characteristic for W. dermatitidis, and the undecided mode of conidiogenesis, the isolate closely resembles W. dermatitidis in gross and microscopic morphology, thermotolerance, and general and neurotrophic infectivity patterns in mice injected intraperitoneally.
(2) The most important of these signs are the following: female genital tracts are disposed to the inside from the urinary tracts (in embryos the Müller's canals are on the inner side of the wolffian ducts); in placental animals there are no tertiary egg sheaths which are physiologically substituted for the trophoblast; the provisory organs reveal great variability; the allantoid placenta performs not only metabolic but also endocrinous functions.
(3) In the tissues of chick embryos, the antigen could be detected in the impression preparations of the allanto-amnionic fluid, embryonal muscle, yolk sac, and chorio-allantoid membrane the fifth day after infection.
(4) The virions of the isolates from H. zea (HAV) and T. ni (TAV) were allantoid in shape (400 x 130 nm), enveloped and contained an inner particle which appeared to have an internal lipid bilayer surrounding the DNA core.
