What's the difference between anoa and ansa?

Anoa

Definition:

  • (n.) A small wild ox of Celebes (Anoa depressicornis), allied to the buffalo, but having long nearly straight horns.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) Immunofluorescence on rat liver sections was used to select high-titer antinucleolar antibodies (ANoA) in the sera of patients with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma).
  • (2) Strains with H-2b and H-2d haplotypes were resistant to induction of ANoA.

  • (4) The susceptibility to development of ANoA, AHA, ACA, and systemic, granular IgG deposits in the B10.S strain was influenced by the sex, since males showed less uniform development of these immunopathologic features than females.
  • (5) Mercury-treated mice from strains carrying the H-2s haplotype developed antinucleolar antibodies (ANoA), which targeted the 34-kDa nucleolar protein fibrillarin, and in some instances also nucleolar proteins of 60-70 and 10-15 kDa, the latter corresponding to histones.
  • (6) In 646 patients, 53 ANoA sera (8%) were identified, and of these, 46 were available in sufficient quantities for further analysis.
  • (7) We were not able to confirm earlier reports that expression of H-2E genes dampens the development of ANoA.

Ansa

Definition:

  • (n.) A name given to either of the projecting ends of Saturn's ring.

  • (8) A second open reading frame (ORF1), encoding a protein of Mr 23,336, is found 10 bp downstream from ansA; the ribosome-binding site of ORF1 overlaps the stop codon of ansA.
  • (9) It has been demonstrated (Gary Bobo and Bonvallet 1975) that long-lasting stimulation of the "amygdaloid area for the defence reaction" (basal nucleus, pars magnocellularis) elicits, after an initial facilitation, a delayed inhibition of the monosynaptic masseteric reflex (MR), while stimulation of the amygdalofugal fibers running in the ansa lenticularis provokes an immediate inhibition of the reflex.
  • (10) The ansa subclavia joined the vertebral and the cervicothoracic ganglia.
  • (11) Electrical stimulation of the ventral roots while recording evoked potentials from the sympathetic chain, anterior ansa subclavia, posterior ansa, ventrolateral cervical cardiac nerve, ventromedial cervical cardiac nerve, and the vagosympathetic trunk demonstrated that A-, B-, and C-type fibers exist in these efferent neural pathways.
