Catadromous


Definition:

  • (a.) Having the lowest inferior segment of a pinna nearer the rachis than the lowest superior one; -- said of a mode of branching in ferns, and opposed to anadromous.
  • (a.) Living in fresh water, and going to the sea to spawn; -- opposed to anadromous, and said of the eel.

Frond


Definition:

  • (n.) The organ formed by the combination or union into one body of stem and leaf, and often bearing the fructification; as, the frond of a fern or of a lichen or seaweed; also, the peculiar leaf of a palm tree.
