What's the difference between chondritic and chondritis?

Chondritic

Definition:

  • (a.) Granular; pertaining to, or having the granular structure characteristic of, the class of meteorites called chondrites.

Example Sentences:

  • (3) Further theoretical and experimental studies support the view that hydrogen cyanide polymerization along these lines is a universal process that accounts not only for the past formation of primitive proteins on Earth, but also for the yellow-brown-orange colors of Jupiter today and for the presence of water-soluble compounds hydrolyzable to chi-amino acids in materials obtained from environments as diverse as the moon, carbonaceous chondrites and the reaction chambers used to simulate organic synthesis in planetary atmospheres.
  • (4) This fraction was also present in extracts from the Murray and Mighei CM2 chondrites.
  • (5) The latter results belong with a program of interdisciplinary research applications of the new microprobe, which include studies of e.g., the monolayer lateral distribution of intercalant in SbCl5 intercalated graphite and of silicate minerals and iron distribution in sections of chondrules and their rims (components of chondrites, a class of stony meteorites).
  • (6) Since the initial find in the Murchison meteorite (a type II carbonaceous chondrite) of both protein and nonprotein amino acids with nearly equal abundances of D and L isomers, further studies have been carried out.

  • (12) The recent development of sophisticated analytical techniques and availability of carbonaceous chondrites with a minimum of terrestrial contamination has resulted in the identification of amino acids which provide strong evidence for a natural extraterrestrial chemical synthesis.
  • (13) Investigations of the Murray meteorite (a type II carbonaceous chondrite) has produced similar results, but studies of the Orgueil meteorite (a type I carbonaceous chondrite) show only a limited suite of amino acids, some of which appear to be indigenous while others appear to be terrestrial contaminanats.

  • (15) The team collected fragments of chondrite that matched other chunks of the meteorite.
  • (16) Because of the fragility of the laryngotracheal tree in children, and the serious consequences on function of any chondritic lesion or even mucosal edema, overall endoscopic treatments combined with prosthesis insertion are preferred to any surgical procedure.
  • (17) The role and relative contributions of different forms of energy to the synthesis of amino acids and other organic compounds on the primitive earth, in the parent bodies or carbonaceous chondrites, and in the solar nebula are examined.

Chondritis
