Circumference


Definition:

  • (n.) The line that goes round or encompasses a circular figure; a periphery.
  • (n.) A circle; anything circular.
  • (n.) The external surface of a sphere, or of any orbicular body.
  • (v. t.) To include in a circular space; to bound.

  • (1) Direct fetal digitalization led to a reduction in umbilical artery resistance, a decline in the abdominal circumference from 20.3 to 17.8 cm, and resolution of the ascites within 72 h. Despite this dramatic response to therapy, fetal death occurred on day 5 of treatment.

Diameter


Definition:

  • (n.) Any right line passing through the center of a figure or body, as a circle, conic section, sphere, cube, etc., and terminated by the opposite boundaries; a straight line which bisects a system of parallel chords drawn in a curve.
  • (n.) A diametral plane.
  • (n.) The length of a straight line through the center of an object from side to side; width; thickness; as, the diameter of a tree or rock.
  • (n.) The distance through the lower part of the shaft of a column, used as a standard measure for all parts of the order. See Module.
