What's the difference between clinoid and crinoid?

Clinoid

Definition:

  • (a.) Like a bed; -- applied to several processes on the inner side of the sphenoid bone.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) The horizontal portion of the intracavernous ICA as well as the whole aspect of the aneurysm could be exposed as a result of the extended opening of the cavernous roof anterior to the posterior clinoid process.
  • (2) A case of primary chondromyxoid fibroma of the petrous and sphenoid bones extending into the posterior clinoid process, sella, and cavernous sinus in a 26-year-old man is reported.
  • (3) All 3 of these patients had a basilar bifurcation that was below the level of the posterior clinoid on angiography, whereas none of the remaining 17 aneurysm patients demonstrated a low-lying bifurcation.
  • (4) The frequency of two non-metric skeletal traits, atlas bridging and clinoid bridging, were examined serially in a randomly chosen sample of 147 families who participated in the Burlington Growth Study.
  • (5) Roentogenographic examination showed an almost complete loss of sellar floor and destruction of the posterior clinoids and dorsum sella.
  • (6) Next, the anterior clinoid process and the optic nerve are involved, and, finally, thrombosis of the aneurysmal cavity extends into the internal carotid artery itself.
  • (7) The aneurysm had resulted in erosion of the anterior clinoid process, but this was not recognized preoperatively.
  • (8) When this fundamental plane was projected to the lateral view on CT scan, it appeared to be almost identical to the line connecting the tip of posterior clinoid process to the internal occipital protuberance (the fundamental line).
  • (9) The 4th cranial nerve, on the other hand, entered near the postero-inferior portion of the posterior clinoid on the same view.
  • (10) According to our results obtained, may be concluded: a) the fusion between the anterior and medium clinoid processes occurred in 17 cases (6.27%), being that in 11 cases (4.05%) bilaterally; b) between the medium and posterior clinoid processes occurred in six cases (2.22%); c) between the anterior and posterior clinoid processes occurred bilaterally in six cases (2.22%); d) between the three processes occurred in nine cases (3.04%).
  • (11) Clinoidal meningiomas have distinguishing clinical, radiological, and surgical considerations.
  • (12) Plain skull X-ray showed marked digital impression and disappearance of the posterior clinoid process and the dorsum sella.
  • (13) 6) In the case of meningioma extending from tuberculum sellae to dorsum sellae or originated from dorsum sellae, PEG showed a finding of "capping on the dorsum sellae" and the tumor shadow over the posterior clinoid process took different feature from pituitary adenoma or craniopharyngioma.
  • (14) The characteristic findings are mental retardation, characteristic facies, narrow forehead, bushy eyebrows with synophrys, hypertelorism, broad nose, wide philtrum, triangular-shaped mouth, short neck, marked maxillary hypoplasia, a low hairline (especially posteriorly in the midline on the neck), brachycephaly, calcified clinoid ligements, and multiple bony abnormalities in the upper thoracic vertebrae and sometimes in the cervical region, together with a variety of deformities of the upper ribs.
  • (15) On angiograms, the height of the bifurcation of an elongated basilar artery and the length of the intracranial internal carotid artery from the interclinoid line between the anterior and posterior clinoid process were 20 mm and 6 mm in Case 1, and 18 mm and 5 mm in Case 2, respectively.
  • (16) The left carotid angiograms showed severe stenosis of the left internal carotid artery in the supra-clinoid segment and occlusion of the proximal middle and anterior cerebral arteries with development of moyamoya vessels as collateral circulation.
  • (17) In order to make easy the dissection of the aneurysmal neck, the unroofing of the optic canal as well as the extensive removal of the tip of the anterior clinoid should be performed.
  • (18) Plain X-ray films and frontal tomograms of the skull showed a mass of soft tissue density in the left upper maxillary, left posterior ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses with extensive destruction of the sella turcica, dorsum sellae, and anterior clinoid process.
  • (19) Routine radiologic examination of each patient revealed a normal sella turcica and no demineralization of the posterior clinoid process.
  • (20) Concerning the internal carotid artery aneurysms, the carotid bifurcation aneurysms, the true posterior communicating artery aneurysms, dissection is generally performed without particular difficulty, except for the low internal carotid artery aneurysms (carotido-ophtalmic aneurysms); in these latter, the anterior clinoid process and the internal part of sphenoidal ridge must be removed.

Crinoid

Definition:

  • (a.) Crinoidal.
  • (n.) One of the Crinoidea.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) At 5 hr, gastrulation has occurred in the absence of any structure comparable to the echinoid hyaline layer; therefore, at least one important mechanism proposed for echinoid gastrulation cannot occur in this crinoid.
  • (2) This is done from a comparative perspective, with reference to members of the five extant echinoderm classes; crinoids, holothurians, asteroids, ophiuroids, and echinoids.
  • (3) Several species of fish are deterred from eating food by the inclusion in it of these sulphates at the concentration found in crinoids.
  • (4) We report the results of cutting experiments on embryos of the crinoid Florometra serratissima, which produce, in the doliolaria stage, a striped pattern of ciliary bands.
  • (5) We have examined echinoderms from the five existing classes (echinoids, asteroids, ophiuroids, holothurians and crinoids) for the expression of these specific phosphagen kinases in different tissues.
  • (6) The range of (presumed) polyketide constituents in comatalid crinoids has been extended to include bianthronyls, meso-naphthodianthrones and sulphate esters of various of the polyketides.
  • (7) In contrast, the obliquely striated fibres of crinoids show markedly continuous and homogeneous oblique Z-lines; such a structure is not compatible with 'super-performances' like sliding and shearing of the sarcomere elements, but instead could allow functions comparable to those characteristic of a cross-striated muscle (quick, short movements, mechanically amplifiable by bone levers).
