(1) Seven new species of feather mites belonging to families Analgidae, Falculiferidae, Pterolichidae, Pteronyssidae and Xolalgidae are described from Columbiformes, Cuculiformes, Piciformes and Passeriformes of Surinam.
(2) Although guanine was expected to be a major component of the reflecting "platelets," based on previous work with other Columbiformes, it could not be demonstrated chromatographically or spectrophotometrically.
(3) Prevalence was highest in Galliformes (25.2%), followed by Anseriformes (12.9%) and Columbiformes (8.3%).
