What's the difference between desmine and stilbite?

Desmine

Definition:

  • (n.) Same as Stilbite. It commonly occurs in bundles or tufts of crystals.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) A two-dimensional gel electrophoresis system is used to investigate some of the properties of desmin, the major subunit of the 100-A filaments from chick muscle cells, and to compare these properties to those of the other major contractile and regulatory proteins of muscle.
  • (2) Fine needle aspirates and touch imprints of 36 hyperplastic (reactive) lymph nodes were tested for the presence of keratin and desmin.
  • (3) Five of these proteins have been identified as 20-kDa myosin light chain, caldesmon, synemin, and two isoelectric variants of desmin.
  • (4) In the absence of vimentin networks (MCF-7 cells), the initiation of desmin filament formation seems to start on the preexisting keratin filaments.
  • (5) The results reinforce the use of desmin as a marker for muscle sarcomas and show that a positive identification of rhabdomyosarcoma can be achieved by immunocytochemistry with the parallel use of desmin and titin antibodies.
  • (6) Both middle cerebral arteries and four control basilar arteries were examined using fluorescent antibody techniques with antisera to alpha-actin, myosin, fibronectin, fibrinogen, vimentin, desmin, laminin, and collagens (types I, III, IV, and V).
  • (7) In contrast, 7 of 28 atherosclerotic plaques contained many cells expressing desmin in addition to the other cytoskeletal proteins characteristic of normal intima SMC.

  • (11) It was found that in 4 out of 12 plaques some smooth muscle cells (SMC) were stained by monoclonal antibodies to desmin.
  • (12) Vimentin, still present together with desmin in the myoblasts, is lost from the myotubes.
  • (13) Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells showed positive reaction with S-100 protein (S-100), but all reactions with myoglobin (MG), desmin (DM), fibronectin (FN), creatinine phosphokinase-mm (CPK), factor 8th-related antigen (F8RA), alpha-1-antitrypsin (A1AT), alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (A1ACT), keratin (KN), and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were negative.
  • (14) A positive reaction to desmin was detected in an esophageal tumor and in nine gastric tumors.
  • (15) Anti-desmin antibodies were also used for comparison.
  • (16) All the cells with desmin in the intima and media also contained vimentin.
  • (17) Peptide mapping analysis showed a similar extent of inhibition by p13suc1 for all five phosphorylation sites by p34cdc2 kinase of vimentin and desmin, hence these p13suc1-induced inhibitions are probably not site-specific.

Stilbite

Definition:

  • (n.) A common mineral of the zeolite family, a hydrous silicate of alumina and lime, usually occurring in sheaflike aggregations of crystals, also in radiated masses. It is of a white or yellowish color, with pearly luster on the cleavage surface. Called also desmine.
