(2) When sufficient adequately cooled coolant is properly employed, this icebox will maintain the temperatures of allergenic extracts in the desirable range of 2 degrees to 4 degrees C while they are in use for skin testing and immunotherapy.
(3) Both icebox and coolant can be readily obtained from standard commercial sources and are inexpensive.
(4) The main parts of this technique are as follows: the sensibilization of latex particles and incubation of the sensitized particles with sera examined in an icebox (overnight) followed by spinning at 5000 G 10 minutes.--The sera giving negative results with LRT reacted also in 78,3% with complement-fixing test (CFT) in 79.3% and with indirect fluorescent test (IFAT) in 61.8% and with microprecipitating test (MPT) in 100% negatively.--The sera reacting strongly positively with LFT reacted also with CFT in high titers (titer 160 and higher) in 60.9% and in 55% with IFAT (titers 128 and higher).
(5) A polystyrene foam icebox is described which can be cooled with sacks of coolant which have been reduced to a temperature of - 17 degrees C in the freezing compartment of a standard refrigerator.
