(1) Hand contamination with the infectious metacercariae of the digenetic trematode Nanophyetus salmincola (family Troglotrematidae) occurred during the handling of fresh-killed, juvenile coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch.
(2) Phylogenetic analysis of both mini-exon-derived RNA gene and 5S gene sequences show that the free-living B. caudatus is more closely related to the monogenetic Crithidia than the digenetic Trypanosoma.
(3) Development of the nervous system in the ontogeny of digenetic trematodes; 2.
(4) Infection with digenetic trematodes causes an inhibition or complete cessation of fecundity in their intermediate hosts, freshwater snails.
(5) Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the two digenetic trematodes, Gigantocotyle explanatum from the liver and Gastrothylax crumenifer from the rumen of the water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis revealed the presence of at least six and seven isoenzymes of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), respectively in a partially purified enzyme preparation.
(6) Pools of plasma were derived from B. glabrata of either the M line strain, which is susceptible to infection with the PR1 strain of the digenetic trematode Schistosoma mansoni, or from the 13-16-R1 strain, which is resistant to infection.
(7) The effects of a digenetic trematode Gangatrema dehradoonense (Digenea: Opecoelidae) on the pH of small intestine in Labeo dero (Ham.)
(8) Oxyhaemoglobins of six digenetic trematodes,--Srivastavaia indica, Gastrothylax crumenifer, Gigantocotyle explanatum, Fasciolopsis buski, Gastrodiscoides hominis, Isoparorchis hypselobagri, and of their 3 vertebrate hosts, Bubalus bubalis, Sus scrofa, Wallago attu, were subjected to alkali denaturation at a pH of 12.4.
(9) The three digenetic species Trypanosoma cruzi, Trypanosoma brucei, and Leishmania tarentolae branch from the Leptomonas line.
(10) 70 specimens have been dissected, coming from 8 enclaves located in three Spanish provinces; 6 species of helminths have been detected (1 Digenetic Trematode, 4 Cestodes and 1 Nematode).
(11) The structure of the nervous system in digenetic trematodes is based on the occurrence of various neurotransmitters in the nerve tissue.
(12) In haemolymph of Lymnaea stagnalis, parasitized with the digenetic trematode parasite Trichobilharzia ocellata, a neuropeptide (schistosomin) occurs which antagonizes female gonadotropic hormones, e.g.
(13) The development and movement of sperm, primary oocytes, and vitelline cells were much more rapid in E. caproni than other digenetic trematodes investigated previously.
(14) Mehlis' gland of a digenetic trematode, Paragonimus ohirai, is composed of two types of secretory cells, DB and CB.
(15) Cellular proliferation has been analyzed during cercarial development of the digenetic trematode Trichobilharzia ocellata.
(16) Human nanophyetiasis is a zoonotic disease recently recognized in the coastal US Pacific Northwest and is caused by the digenetic trematode Nanophyetus salmincola.
(17) Ten families (Lepocreadiidae, Opistholebetidae, Gyliauchenidae, Fellodistomidae, Acanthocolpidae, Opecoelidae, Bucephalidae, Cryptogonimidae, Syncoeliidae, and Hemiuridae), representing 29 genera and 34 species of digenetic flukes were recorded.
(18) A tentative time scale can be assigned to the nodes of this tree by assuming that the common ancestor of the digenetic parasites predated the separation of South America and Africa and postdated the first fossil appearance of its host (inferred by parsimony analysis).
(19) Rediae containing cercariae of this digenetic trematod, appeared exclusively restricted to the tissues of the digestive gland.
(20) Quantitative estimation of absolute levels and in vitro release of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in seven species of digenetic trematodes: Isoparorchis hypselobagri from the swim bladder of catfish, Wallago attu; Srivastavaia indica and Gastrothylax crumenifer from the rumen, and Gigantocotyle explanatum from the liver of the water buffalo, Bubalus bubalis; Fasciolopsis buski, Echinostoma malayanum from the small intestine and Gastrodiscoides hominis from the caecum of the pig, Sus scrofa revealed that the enzyme is present in remarkably high quantities in species which inhibit gastrointestinal tract compared with those that parasitize liver and swim bladder.
