What's the difference between endosmosis and exosmosis?

Endosmosis

Definition:

  • (n.) The transmission of a fluid or gas from without inward in the phenomena, or by the process, of osmose.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) After distilled water treatment, the epithelium is severely swollen and at some places completely desquamated from the lamellae, leaving only the blood capillaries and supporting pilasler cells, due to endosmosis.
  • (2) pCMPS specifically increases the hydraulic resistance to exosmosis, but does not influence endosmosis.
  • (3) By contrast, nonyltriethylammonium (C9), a blocking agent of K+ channels, increases the hydraulic resistance to endosmosis, but does not affect that to exosmosis.

Exosmosis

Definition:

  • (n.) See Exosmose.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) The excess of salt causes exosmosis resulting in death of the fishes.
  • (4) A step change can hence be assumed when modeling exosmosis for determining the lymphocyte membrane permeability.
