Lactamide


Definition:

  • (n.) An acid amide derived from lactic acid, and obtained as a white crystalline substance having a neutral reaction. It is metameric with alanine.

  • (15) It was found that the beta-lactamides were active against Proteus, ceporin being the most effective antibiotic.

Metameric


Definition:

  • (a.) Having the same elements united in the same proportion by weight, and with the same molecular weight, but possessing a different structure and different properties; as, methyl ether and ethyl alcohol are metameric compounds. See Isomeric.
  • (a.) Of or pertaining to a metamere or its formation; as, metameric segmentation.
