What's the difference between meroistic and yolk?

Meroistic

Definition:

  • (a.) Applied to the ovaries of insects when they secrete vitelligenous cells, as well as ova.

Example Sentences:

  • (1) The meroistic ovary is a highly polarized differentiating system.
  • (2) The degree of polyploidization, the level of transcriptional activity and the volume of the different cell types present in the meroistic ovary of Sarcophaga bullata were measured during different vitellogenic stages.
  • (3) The organization of the extrachromosomal nucleolar material in oocytes of two insect species with different ovary types, the house cricket Acheta domesticus (panoistic ovary) and the water beetle Dytiscus marginalis (meroistic ovary), was studied with light and electron microscopic techniques.
  • (4) In the most advanced types of meroistic ovaries the synthesis of RNA for the growing oocyte in each follicle is taken over by nurse cells, i.e., sister cells of the definite egg cell.
  • (5) In the typical meroistic insect ovary, the oocyte nucleus synthesizes little if any RNA.
  • (6) Similarities between the construction of the ovaries and oogenesis in astigmatic mites and telotrophic meroistic ovaries in insects are discussed.

Yolk

Definition:

  • (2) Results obtained from cumulative labeling and pulse-labeling and chase experiments with cells from late gastrulae, yolk plug-stage embryos, and neurulae showed that the 30S RNA is an intermediate in rRNA processing and is derived from 40S pre-rRNA and processed to 28S rRNA.
  • (3) The wall of the yolk sac thickens as a result of this infolding and the densely packed capillaries.
  • (4) When foods such as dairy products contain large numbers of egg yolk-negative strains of S. aureus, the PPSA agar has the advantage over egg yolk containing media such as Baird-Parker agar that fewer suspect colonies have to be confirmed.
