(1) These studies led to the following conclusions: (a) all the prominent NHP which remain bound to DNA are also present in somewhat similar proportions in the saline-EDTA, Tris, and 0.35 M NaCl washes of nuclei; (b) a protein comigrating with actin is prominent in the first saline-EDTA wash of nuclei, but present as only a minor band in the subsequent washes and on washed chromatin; (c) the presence of nuclear matrix proteins in all the nuclear washes and cytosol indicates that these proteins are distributed throughout the cell; (d) a histone-binding protein (J2) analogous to the HMG1 protein of K. (2) The fine structure of neurofibrillary tangles in the hippocampal gyrus, substantia nigra, pontine nuclei and locus coeruleus of the brain was postmortem studied in a case of progressive supranuclear palsy.

(19) No HRP-labeled axons were found in the facial and solitary nuclei and the cerebellum.
(20) The reaction of cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) with chicken erythrocyte nuclei produces covalent cross-linking of HMG proteins 1, 2 and E to DNA, in addition to cross-links amongst LMG proteins.
Pronucleus
Definition:
(n.) One of the two bodies or nuclei (called male and female pronuclei) which unite to form the first segmentation nucleus of an impregnated ovum.

(1) In the triploids, the 40 female chromosomes present (mouse, n = 20) were derived from a single diploid pronucleus formed after the extrusion of a first polar body, and following the monospermic fertilization of primary oocytes.
(2) Both nucleate and anucleate fragments lose the capability of transforming sperm nucleus into fully formed pronucleus sometime between 3 and 5 h after activation.
