Definition:

  • (a.) Having greater length than breadth, esp. when rectangular.
  • (n.) A rectangular figure longer than it is broad; hence, any figure longer than it is broad.

Prolate


Definition:

  • (a.) Stretched out; extended; especially, elongated in the direction of a line joining the poles; as, a prolate spheroid; -- opposed to oblate.
