(1) While the heaviest anterogradely labeled ascending projections were observed to the contralateral ventral posterolateral nucleus of the thalamus, pars oralis (VPLo), efferent projections were also observed to the contralateral ventrolateral thalamic nucleus (VLc) and central lateral (CL) nucleus of the thalamic intralaminar complex, magnocellular (and to a lesser extent parvicellular) red nucleus, nucleus of Darkschewitsch, zona incerta, nucleus of the posterior commissure, lateral intermediate layer and deep layer of the superior colliculus, dorsolateral periaqueductal gray, contralateral nucleus reticularis tegmenti pontis and basilar pontine nuclei (especially dorsal and peduncular), and dorsal (DAO) and medial (MAO) accessory olivary nuclei, ipsilateral lateral (external) cuneate nucleus (LCN) and lateral reticular nucleus (LRN), and to a lesser extent the caudal medial vestibular nucleus (MVN) and caudal nucleus prepositus hypoglossi (NPH), and dorsal medullary raphe.
(2) Hypertrophy is restricted to subdivisions of the inferior olive included in recurrent cerebello-mesencephalic-olivary circuits.
(3) When the position and size of injection sites were compared to distribution of retrogradely labeled olivary somata, it was clear that zones A, B, C1, C2, C3 and D were present in lobules IV and V of squirrel monkey.

(5) Immunohistochemical analysis, using a polyclonal antibody for Fos, revealed a distinct pattern of neuronal activation in the off-axis animals in the dorsomedial cell column (DMCC) of the inferior olivary nucleus.
(6) Component 4 principally reflects the second volley of activity within the eighth nerve terminals, and outflow from the ipsilateral superior olivary complex ascending in that lateral lemniscus, with a possible contribution from activity in the contralateral CNC.

(12) The lateral lemniscal complex comprises nucleus olivaris superior (SO); nucleus lemnisci lateralis, pars ventralis (LLv); and nucleus ventralis lemnisci lateralis (VLV).
(13) More caudally, the serotonin immunoreactive cell bodies were located along the nucleus raphe inferior and ventrolaterally in the vicinity of the olivary complex.
(14) The molecular layer associated with each granular mass receives contralateral input from separate clusters of inferior olivary cells.
