(1) The importance of this embryological anomaly is underlined in order to be differentiated from urachal and omphalo-mesenteric duct malformations.
(2) In case of portal hypertension, an inferior omphalo-azygos flow by the right ascending lumbar vein was noticed.
(3) A case of asymmetrical thoraco-omphalo-ischiopagus tripus will be reported.
(4) The differential diagnosis with other cystic masses of the umbilical area (omphalo-mesenteric duct cyst, urachal cyst, mesenteric cyst, duplication) is discussed.
(5) Their individualization with regard to Meckel's diverticulum and remainders of omphalo-mesenteric canal is emphasized.
(6) A brief report of 12 cases of congenital anatomical fistula (CUF) has been presented (4 cases of persistent omphalo-mesenteric, 3 persistent urachus, 4 urachal sinus, 1 persistent omphalo-mesenteric duct with urachus) with some general comments.
(7) Seven cases of unusual spontaneous portosystemic shunts observed by ultrasonography in the last 8 months are reported, including cases of coronary vein varicocele and patent umbilical vein; two cases of spleno-retroperitoneal anastomosis; omphalo-ilio-caval anastomosis; superior mesenteric vein-inferior vena cava anastomosis; spleno-renal anastomosis; and spleno-portal anastomosis and anastomosis from the splenic vein to the abdominal wall.
Umbilicus
Definition:
(n.) The depression, or mark, in the median line of the abdomen, which indicates the point where the umbilical cord separated from the fetus; the navel.

(1) Chemically isolated separate preparations of the non-aggregating protein-chondroitin-keratin sulphate (PCKS) fraction from the hyaline cartilage and hyaluronic acid (HUA) of the vitreous body and of the umbilicus were investigated by electron microscopy.
(2) Cultures were collected from the external ear, throat and umbilicus of all infants within 5 minutes of birth and at day 4 of life.
